this is a first for me - leaving both the shank and wood knob "natural" - no stain - yet I think the contrast is quite remarkable - I may do this again.
It looks like you varnished the shank and knob? If so, my guess is that the contrast will grow w. time.Early on, I varnished some beech wood shanks. The beech bark is pale grey. After a few years, the bark covered areas were almost black.
