G'day all from another Aussie.

Im from Western Australia and recently into stick shaping, whittling and ozzing plenty of involuntary claret in the experimental drive to see what this wood carving thing is....

Im at the very beginning of sticking in general, mostly experimental with dead fall timber and making assorted resin based varnishes from local trees (im a recent non smoker and badly in need of something to fill all the extra idl Product Wood Garden tool Red Gas
e time ive now got lol).

Hey! and;

"making assorted resin based varnishes from local tree"

You would be the first person I've ever met that made their own varnishes. If the pic you posted shows work using that varnish, looks like it is a very worthwhile pursuit.

Please post pics of the unworked sticks and wood grain, if you like. I suppose what you have locally is very, very different than what I've ever encountered.

Thanks to you all for your warm welcome :)

I shall do my best to do up a pic expose' on "grass tree" resin based varnish that ive been mucking about with, over the course of the next week.

edit: Just learnt it would be best to describe it as a varnish/stain. Ive been applying it to light colored timber, one coat does that golden hue, 7 coats for the rich deep red.

I agree with the previous comments, you already have a nice collection! The homemade stain & varnish idea is interesting, I will watch for more information on your experiments with that.

Congratulations on quitting the smoking habit! I hear that it isn't easy.

Welcome aboard!
