I found this branch laying on the ground beneath a 100% leaf-free tree - did not have my camera along or might have taken picture of the bark. During the sanding process this a.m. I've discovered something unusual (to me) - each of the smaller "branches" already have dark center/cores. This is going to make a SMART looking cane I think but I'd like your input into the possible/potential tree specie.

Anyone?

Thanx

it's indeed maple - drove past/in - within the hour and saw a few maple leaves still hanging on, for dear life...not sure yet of the exact type, but will search further

Here's two pics taken this a.m. Even though I'm reasonably certain those small twigs growing at the base are Maple, that doesn't necessarily mean the tree itself is Maple, eh? Check the bark - quite rugged and rough. Further it appears perhaps sap flowed out of that opening . . . but I'm certainly no expert.

Anyone?

ps - I'm thinking now it's Sugar Maple - agreed?
