So as I have been following the progress of Randy's,(CV3) eagle/bear cane handle it inspired me to do another bear head handle myself. The last one I did over a year ago and my skills with a detail knife have improved a little so thought I'd give it a whittle. The handle is made from a piece of black walnut that I collected last summer when a neighbor took down a dying tree. Here's the rough out.
I have a unique piece of redbud that has been looking for the right handle for over a year now that I think this bear will go on.
