Its a good tip. Some else here mentioned the method a few weeks ago. I've tried it, and now keep some old bags in my sandpaper drawer.
Burnishing
Just a little tip on finishing if you don' already know it -- after you are done sanding try burnishing your work with a plain brown paper bag! The bag is equal to 1600 grit sandpaper -- it really shines up your work!

Its worth repeating. Simple, inexpensive but so effective.
