ps - yes, it's 3:39 a.m. and I've been awake for more than an hour with another migraine headache. Hope to get some more shut-eye before the sun rises.

Willow, the so-called "diamond" willow that occurs farther to the north than Oklahoma, where a fungus can attack and alter the tree.

Working on one for my wife now, a bit too skinny, but short enough to use as a travel stick. Southwest Airlines limits checked baggage to 63", length + width + height, if I recall correctly. If you exceed that, it's $75 extra. So shorter hiking sticks are in order. Too cold here right now for spending much time in the garage or out in the shed.

I'd better follow orders so that I don't wind up in the shed. ;-)

it's getting there - perhaps I'll have a few pics of the final project to post here some time this weekend - but first this, if I may.

I take great "pride" in those canes - countless times even though a cane is near completion - I've cut it up into firewood with my miter saw because it didn't suit me and I couldn't change it to fit.

So as I've mentioned to my bride I am the FINAL inspector...it must meet my approval most of all.

But I may have a new #1 INSPECTOR.

Here she is on the job yesterday and she's TOUGH!

(She's the youngest of our eight GREAT grandchildren - turned "one" on Dec 1 - and lives locally. WE ARE BLESSED!)
