Working on this cane with a root handle found it a couple months ago and the bark had almost done pelled off cut the remaining roots off and sanded down the rest with my dremel tool I like the colours it has I think it is River Birch by what bark i finshed pelling off.

Just what I was thinking and i don't even carve. It would be a very classic stick with a dog's head.

I don't know how to carve yet I've done put the boiled linseed oil on it going to put the final finsh when I got time this weekend.

I am in the same position, I tried carving, be it on a small scale and found it incredibly difficult. I had some excellent help from people on this forum, so when it didn't happen it was down to yours truly! I SHALL try again but I am going to concentrate on making sticks as, and when health allows. N.

I was going to mention the dog too, but I would be torn between leaving it natural or carving it. Love the colors.
