My name is Philip, I work for VerticalScope.com. VerticalScope recently acquired walkingstickforum.com and will be taking over the management duties of the forum. Your familiar moderator and admin team will be the same people helping with the day to day forum management. We will primarily manage the technical functions of the site and support the mod team. Maintaining continuity as well as the spirit of the site is important to us. This means that little about the site will change for you the user while we continue to grow the community.

Over the next few days you will notice my team mates Helena and Kyle who will be helping me with the site announcements as well as members of our support team (they will introduce themselves in the site issues section). While we get to know the landscape of the forum and how things work we will be on hand to answer questions and get to know the unique needs of this community.

I will be working closely with the Admin/Mod team on ways we can help improve the order of things here and raise the level of your experience on walkingstickforum.com.

If you have questions please let me know, I will do my best to answer you all as quickly and thoroughly as I can.

We are a small but dedicate group of craftsmen. This is a great site with participants from Australasia to England and from Alabama to Alaska. Glad to hear there are no big changes to the forum planned.

Hello and thanks for this forum, it is of immense benefit to all. I floated an idea a while back about a stick-makers wood database that I would like to run by you. There are endless sources for wood info. on the internet if you are interested in working with seasoned lumber, but virtually nothing for people like us who use mainly saplings,. Information about how well they season, respond to steam straightening, ease of carving, whether the bark stays on after seasoning, etc. My idea was to have a database that members could add to and comment on based on their experience within categories and also have an extensive space for comment. There are senior members here with many years of priceless experience that is just not available anywhere else. I would be willing to work on populating the list names and suggest initial categories, then after some discussion we could have a trial run to see if the membership found it worth continuing. Just a thought.

Welcome Phillip. Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of acquiring a forum by someone not associated with the topic? Was it part of a bundle? What would be the ROI? Data mining, potential marketing..? I'm always interested in the types of business generated by the internet/social media/smart tech. One market closes and new ones spring forth.

Thanks,
