That saying could open a can of worms , so many different views on it. a contemporary artist would probably disagree as his views may be that its as much about the aesthetics of a piece but about provoking a response .

A lifetime ago, when Fine Woodworking magazine was in it's infancy, someone wrote in to the editor with that craftsman/artist argument. It provoked a response that raged on for two years.

I agree with Cobalt's idea.

Artist: " I will make something that evokes the idea of a walking stick and what it represents."

Function follows form.

Craftsman: "I will make a walking stick."

Form follows function.

I tend to be more craftsman than artist.

I LIKE that idea.

My beloved bride of 62+ years is a saint - according to the people who know her best - me and the rest of the family.

But she denies it.
