I suppose this question may only be to the British wood carvers as I don't know if Elder grows in the States. I understand that this is a very "pithy" wood but I have seen walking sticks made from older limbs before.

My question is; from what I remember from trimming and removing these (weed) trees the older trunks and limbs seemed to cut very cleanly, has anyone tried carving with Elder? N.

you can carve any wood make sure its seasoned , but be careful when sanding it some fine sawdust is sesirously bad for your health

I havnt tried elder but always suspicious of woods I would check it out so wear a dust mask
