This cane is one of the eight sold this week and I am very thankful - managed to complete it yesterday - and it's w/o a doubt one of my all-time FAV canes - almost wish I could keep it, but there's a lot of HUNGRY and homeless people who need food.

I may have stated this here before but it gives me joy to find a stick laying on the ground - headed for the chopper - to bring it home and through various degrees of sanding, staining, etc., bring it back to life. That was certainly the case with this stick, for the other sticks in that same pile are now gone. I guess I'm in the "salvage business" and so are many/most of you.

I had someone in mind for this cane almost from the get-go and even though this cane provided it's own handle and "thumb-rest" it was too short . . . so I initially added an approx 5" down extension. That did not work. For it dramatically interrupted the flow artistically. This is a beautiful piece of wood with dramatic grain patterns and to suddenly stop all that for a mass produced dowel just was not right. So I replaced that dowel with a chunk-o-maple and am quite pleased with the result. I had to get this right from top to tip, for it was already sold.

Here's two pictures . . . take a day or two after I brought it home and cutting the ragged ends off with my miter saw and then the finished product leaning up against our china closet late yesterday.

I didn't take it as braggting at all. What's the point in a forum if the members don't at least occasionally post about what they're up to?

Great job on the stick! I had to look really closely to see the joint. I agree with you, a straight dowel would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

I too have a lot of admiration for the charity work you do.
