Not sue why picture did not post above. First time I tried to post a picture from a pad. came back to computer.
I have a hame and an unfinished Diamond Willow stick that I can't wait to finish. I really like what you have done with you 'attitude adjuster'. I'm going to follow to see if you have any other advice on this combination of hame/diamond willow pieces.

Randy, I agree - that is beautiful wood !!
not being a country boy, I had to look up "hames" (two curved pieces of metal or wood forming or attached to the collar of a draft horse, to which the traces are attached).
where in the world did you find a brass one ?? (and where do you find Diamond Willow).

You can get a similar color by using Eastern Red Cedar. But you need to be careful as you could hit more red than you want. I thought the stick was red cedar in fact until I read the post more carefully.

I really like doing both. Some sticks aren't long enough for hikers so it becomes a cane. The canes and hiking sticks are addictive, for me at least. All you guys here really inspire me.

I should think you have found the Hames Topper by now, but in the off chance you haven't (or someone found this thread by Googlin') it can be found here at Treeline.

I have a few of the Hames tops in sizes from a 1" ball [ pony size] on up to about 2". Not all of them are brass. some are cast iron, or iron with a silver plating. I may try one with a 1 1/4" ball.
Its not near so heavy. I think the cast iron are hollow. DR
