We moved from MI to approx an hour south of Chicago in 1992 to join our family. I've been woodworking for 30+ years with my most favorable project a family cradle. All six of our grandchildren and now all eight of our great grandchildren have slept in it - in the States of Michigan, IL, TX and TN.

Three years ago we needed to downsize so I'm back to using what I began with - all hand tools. In the summer of 2013 I made my first of twenty hand-made cane . . . during 2015 I made 30, giving most of them away.

My garage is not heated so I do most of the work in my recliner . . . protecting me and the furniture/floor with an old blanket. I do the stain/polyurethane applications in the garage but bring the canes into the laundry room for drying - many times overnight.

I LOVE woodworking - it brings me great joy.

Give that cradle an A+.

I retired a few years ago, and was happy to just use hand tools. I admit that every now and then I wish I could get hold of a table saw, or a chops saw, or a bench sander. But mostly I'm happy with the quiet of hand tools. And the slower pace usually lets me enjoy working the wood more.
