ive been working with wood for many years woodturning pipemaking

now onto stickmaking made my first stick from a piece of blackthorn with a yew handle

around 15 years ago cant seem to part with it! getting back into making them again .a great pastime

Hi! Welcome aboard! I am so jealous that you had access to blackthorn. It's illegal to grow in my area and and unfinished shanks can't be exported. Anyway.. Lots of great info here and some really awesome people! Now, let's see that blackthorn!

Is it treated as a noxious weed? If that's the reason it's illegal then you can probably find some in your area.

it's an invasive species. Apparently the roots can travel quite a good distance.

Chances are they learned that the hard way. Keep your eyes open. You'll probably find a few patches that haven't been cleaned out. Our flowering plum is the same way. We have little suckers all over our back yard.
