I've been checking out the site for a while now and finally decided to join. I've been making sticks and canes off and on for about 35+ years or so (mainly off for the last 20 years) and have been thinking of getting back into it on a more regular basis. Mostly they've ended up in a big barrel in the old barn next to the house, but have given quite a few away over the years, and even sold one to a former co-worker for her Dad's birthday.
I get my blanks for free since the family owns a couple hundred acres of mostly woodland. The tricky bit for the last 20 years has been a place to work on them; the garage the GF and I built was almost immediately filled with junk despite one of the main reasons for building it was to have a workshop.
In addition to sticks I do some wood turning and carving, miniature knife making, and trying to grow giant pumpkins.
From what I've read during my weeks of lurking, you folks seem like a really cool and creative gang. Looking forward to getting to know you all better.
