I've been checking out the site for a while now and finally decided to join. I've been making sticks and canes off and on for about 35+ years or so (mainly off for the last 20 years) and have been thinking of getting back into it on a more regular basis. Mostly they've ended up in a big barrel in the old barn next to the house, but have given quite a few away over the years, and even sold one to a former co-worker for her Dad's birthday.

I get my blanks for free since the family owns a couple hundred acres of mostly woodland. The tricky bit for the last 20 years has been a place to work on them; the garage the GF and I built was almost immediately filled with junk despite one of the main reasons for building it was to have a workshop.

In addition to sticks I do some wood turning and carving, miniature knife making, and trying to grow giant pumpkins.

From what I've read during my weeks of lurking, you folks seem like a really cool and creative gang. Looking forward to getting to know you all better.

probably insane would describe us better

we all work in cramped over filled workshops with stuff in it we will probably never use but think I will keep that you never know when it will be useful. dust and shavings everywhere and the tell tale sign of dusty footprints leading into the house

Welcome aboard! Cobalt says we are possibly insane, not sure about insane, but definitely 1/2 a bubble off, here anyway! ;) Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

Thanks for all the welcomes, folks. I'll start a gallery with descriptions of what I've done.

To Cobalt (and MJC4) : You guys can't be any crazier than pumpkin growers.
