Quick review. Seems particularly useful for identifying many common No. Am. woods under a magnifier from just a bit of cross section. Many are illustrated. Curiously, most (?) all are compared to a sample of American Chestnut, a species which is now all but extinct. Reading around, it appears that it was aimed at museum conservators. Lots of clear definitions of wood parts. Shows how to take samples. I'd say it was the sort of thing one might in a 200 level college class.
