I, of course, was not a member here last summer but since my cane-making has slowed way down now that it's 80+ degrees, is that why I'm not seeing any from you guys also?

I presently have only FOUR sticks out in the garage and I could be working on them but for now, it's another Betsy Ross Revolutionary Flag taking up my time, (white paint applied this a.m. as shown) plus two other projects.

Within the past month I gave away two canes and honestly am not anxious to give any of the current canes away.

But I'd better get busy - no, change that - am not going to work on any canes for at least another week...with these current projects taking up my spare time.

You also?

ps - don't worry about the stars not being in perfect circle. I just laid them there for pic taking purposes.

I tend to go from project to project. Right now I'm working on a quilt for a grand niece. We also just got a puppy last week and he's taking a lot of my time and attention. I'd forgotten how much work a puppy is. When the mood strikes me I'll be back to making another stick.

Well my excuse is that I'm getting the house ready to be sold. Have a few that I work on between projects and we're taking a trip to Valley Forge in a couple of weeks. Probably bring them to work on around the campfire. P.s. the heat doesn't help that much either!

Too hot and too many summer time home maintenance projects taking up the time these days. Carving & woodworking projects will pick up again when it's not so beastly hot in the garage/shop.

Weather is part of it. Because I work in an enclosed porch, even w. a fan running, its been too hot most afternoons when I have time.

Mornings are cool enough, but that's when I have to do my yard and garden work. That makes my joints sore enough that I'm not really up for carving. I noticed lol999 bought a Dremel. That is starting to look awfully tempting.

We had a huge thunderstorm roll through this area Wed night - so there were limbs down all around the town. So mid morning I/we went stick hunting - hoping I'd find DEAD limbs sufficient for almost immed use.

nope - lots of green stuff but I don't want/need to wait a full year.

Oh well

As soon as a long-time friend sends me the pins he wants embedded, all that remains for his gift is to embed them and finish the stick. It'll take a week for epoxy to set one day, a coat of sealer (marine spar varnish diluted with mineral spirits), and two or three coats of the varnish, lightly sanding in between.

He's an octogenarian, and a stage 3 bladder cancer victim (stable for now), so I'm anxious to get this to him.

Well I haven't made a stick yet because I'm harvesting my first blanks for NEXT year, although I may have to yield and buy some in. However, right now in England it is definitely the weather. Summer broke on Monday, today is Wednesday and it's forecast to end on Saturday, but during that time the heat and humidity is just beyond what we are normally used to, and it makes us even more bad tempered than normal :)

That flag is done . . . and two more projects almost completed. It's reported those little GREAT grandchildren need benches/stools so they can reach the sink after going potty. I hope to hand off another of these later this week and let the parents do the final coat and decorations.

I may then concentrate on Cane #102 - requested by the P.A. who every six months or so delivers me from skin cancer.

He deserves one, I figure. Plus he asked for one this past Monday.

ps - I've made four - almost five - of these benches. Several times those little tykes use them as lunch trays. Not very cute.
