leather dye

I am about to make a new backgammon board ,the one i have isnt of a very good quality.Plan to make it with a leather case.The outcase would have a smooth finish the inside a rough finish to prevent the stones from sliding.I can get some thick leather .But its the actural dyeing process i am iterested in,application etc so do you know of a good site or book to look at ?I hate the modern faux leather tournement boards you get today there just cheap and nasty.But a good leather set is on ebay NOW for over £2OOO.So a considerable price differance and just like making and designing things

I can get large white and black horn spacers for the stones ,but its the lenght of time the drying process of the leather takes and would it need to be steached whilst drying?

Any advice anyone?
