This has a mahogany handle and a teak shank. The shank is a 36 inch boat flag pole. I found it at a close out sale at a marine supply store. The Derby shape handles round end on the back of the handle lets the cane hang easily and stable on a flat service like a table. I often use a cane and find that there is rarely an out of the way place to store it when I sit at a table in a public place. This lets me tuck the shank under the table and it hangs out of the way. I will do a carving on the shank I am not sure what as of yet. I may have posted this project in the past but it has been a while if I did and just now geting back to finishing it up.

Great design. How hard is that teak to carve?
Teak is a bit like carving concrete. But holds nice detail. You just have to take it slow and repeat shallow cuts. I will use power on the rough out of the design.

Its a pity your so far away randy I have some water buffalo horn and rams horn which would make great end caps on the handle .I think it adds a bit of class to the finish

but whatever you do I am pretty sure you will achieve your aim

That is one fine stick, Randy. Love the shape of the handle.

How far down the shank will you take the leaf carving?
Thanks dww2. That is as far as I am going to go down the stick. I just wanted to us them as a decorative high light.
