I have some mini files I use on detail. The had a small grip area and hard to really control. I use some coat pegs I got at a hobby shop for handles and they have work very well. they are easy to hold and give me better control of the tool. I have done a couple of small detail knifes using the pegs also. But I did not like them for carving.

Great idea!! I could probably whip up something like that on my lathe. I was using a file one day which had no handle and the tang was biting onto my palm a bit. "I wish this thing had a handle on it," I remember saying to myself. Then I had to slap myself when I looked over at the lathe sitting there with a 5 inch maple offcut right on the lathe bed. DUH!!
