Is that a template your using?, i have heard of them ,never used them yet i understand there pretty good

You always have a very good standard of work and lots of attention to detail so post the pics during progression and the finish if you would please

I like the idea of using a template and hoping to try it using some celtic design or viking art,

This forum is excellent for inspring people and sharing information , just wish the dam decorating and garden where finished so i can get back to what i want to do.

I have a 6"x18" x4ft piece of walnut just been haging on to it for use when the time comes i am tempted to do a large type ships figure head but have so many projects in mind i need to catch up with them.

but keep carving and sending pics.

This is a 1"diameter walnut cane I got from Smoky Mountain woodcarvers.
I textured the grip.I will cut in and carve the leaves and texture around them.
Then sand the whole cane down. I will stain the grip with a mahogany or ebony
stain. Or I may mix the two. Then refinish the cane with a marine grade tung oil.

Thats the thing with stickmaking you can do it when you want to and when you have time

I put forgetting things. down to having a senior moment
