Glad to have found the forum.... living here in Alaska provides a huge play ground to get out into the wilderness and seek out those hidden gems..... good to find that others enjoy this crazy hobby... lots of great ideas and suggestions on the forum....
Thanks for asking! I've been a stick picker for many years now.... Like most "Stickers" I like all types of wood .... I like to pick Diamond Willow, which is abundant here in the South Central Alaska area; I generally harvest the stuff that is dead, yet still standing, fantastic hidden treasures just inside the outer bark, and occasionally, I will pick some Oplopanax horridus (Devil's Club .... aptly named), which is an adventure within itself.... I will often harvest Birch which can grow in some unique contorted configurations... Cheers!
