Hi All,
I live close to Durham and my name is Denis. I retired two years ago at 66 years old ( thought I had done my stint) and after viewing Mike Stinnett videos I decided to have a go at making snake sticks. After making a number of them I moved on to having a go at rams horn crooks( still to finish one) and stick topper carving. Also took up making knives and also am getting into oil painting having already tried air brush painting. I collected a number of hazel shanks last winter to work on. The problem I found with making the snake sticks is sourcing the trunks of wood at the diameter needed. Here are a few of my efforts so far.

Dww2 thanks for the welcome. I have carved a few snake sticks and the like over the last few years but have run out of raw material now. It’s not as easy to get material like Mike Stinnett is able to by just going out in the mountains And be able to find dead trees.

Welcome Martsam! Nice work that you've provided in the pics! Sorry but I'm an old codger and can't help but think of
one of my favorite singer, songwriters, Roger Whitaker when I think of Durham.
I look forward to seeing more of your craft.

Cheers Valky307, I am an old codger as well. Great being old - everything stops working and you get muscle aches where you did not know there were muscles and you get back ache from just putting on your socks that’s if you can reach your feet that day!!
