Found some interesting wood, pine, birch, diamond willow washed ashore after the last flood here in Calgary. These finds are proving great to experiment with as I'm trying my hand at caving, wood burning, and inlay. For the diamond willow I'm just removing the rot and sanding it down which has resulted in a very textured and colorful hiking stick.

Welcome! Sounds like you're off to a good start. I haven't found any diamond willow here but would like to try some too.

Diamond willow is a beautiful wood.

I was very surprised to find some washed up along the shore. The willow looked to be in pretty bad shape but when I removed the top layer am finding a verity of hues and even the cracks are adding a certain character.
