This is the first cane I've made from oak the shaft is water oak and the handle is a turned piece of red oak thinking about giving to a man retiring from the mil later this month.
Nicely done! Red oak I have worked with, the water oak is not native to our area. One of the great things about traveling is the opportunity to collect species of wood we don't have locally.
My one and only brother has a 40' dead oak on his wooded property he's going to chop down. He asked if I'd be interested in any of the surviving limbs/branches. I replied via "yes" in 40 synonyms.
Good to see you're back Norson. I was starting to get worried because I haven't seen you posting lately. I'm thinking you'll get a lot of good sticks from that oak.
