A santa ornament i am doing 6 for gifts. this is # 1 I will carve them then paint . Two of them I will put on a plaque with a battery candle light. I did some last year.

Finished paint today I will apply the varnish in a day or two. It will darken the face area a bit.

Is the carving in the round or is it a half?

Can U show the process of how U attach the face to the palque

Mark the carving is a corner carving. I started with a 3" x 3" X 4" block of bass wood. I cut it in half corner to corner giving me two 45 degree 4" blocks. The plaques are wall hanging. glue the carving in place and then put a screw in the back of the plaque. I do the same with the candle holder. I have also made book end type " L " bracket. for setting in on a table. mounting a Santa on the vertical with a candle on the bottom. I thought I had a picture of that but I don't. When I do that I use glue and a dowel to attach the santa so there is not a hole and screw visible in the back. That is what I am going to do with this one when I get it done I will post a picture.
