Messing about with the scrimshaw idea using camel bone
Scrimshaw is usually made with a thin pointed tool covered in ink then polished back.as I wanted the lettering to be quite thick I got a industrial engraver to cut the letter in to the bone. Caused the guy a problem setting the machine up to handle a 1 inch bone disc but by doing it this way I had to use the fonts he had .These where usually used for industrial information so very limited with the fonts
The bone I normally use for collars on hiking poles
Not altogether happy with the font but best I could get with the engraver available as a few engravers said that they couldn't handle such a small hard piece of bone
the mallet shown is a club mallet with Indian rosewood
The bone is to be inserted cantered one each side of the ebony mallets head and is 1 inch in diameter which is being made with a carbon fibre handle
