Had a very good Sunday lunch today at a village pub in a nearby local village

a excellent starter of toasted goats chees on a toasted muffin drizzled in raspberry balsamic vinegar and black olives .And a main coarse of roast pork Yorkshire pudding roast potatoes with fresh veg , just to much to eat but a 1st class meal disappointed I couldn't manage the sticky toffee pudding

But a old village pub pity its had it thatch removed and replaced with tiles

A great meal. I doubt I could have finished the sticky toffee pudding, either. Our local cafe has a big crowd on Sunday mornings, and the food is OK. Under only 3 different owners since the mid 1950's, qualifies as a standard.

If I saw a building that "picturesque" near where I live, even w/o thatch, I'd have to suppose it was just a fantasy. It would most likely have a sign reading "Ye Olde Victuals Shoppe, est. 2001." And the food would be awful.

I know what you mean about these so called restaurants , like most people I just like good honest fare with real ale . this pub served 15 real ales hand pulled good beer. The place is always packed lucky to get a table .but there are several good pubs nearby . the scenery is still old England patchwork quilt country side with picturesque villages with the odd common pasture on the village greens which is something the council cant stop by selling it to developers without a change in law by parliament which they wouldn't get due to the people who live there.

but there is some great views where ever you live where its the south of France Spain our your own backyard

Its just taking the time to look at them.

I agree. Nothing better than a good basic meal. Some of the smaller towns around here have some great family run places to eat. Well prepared food at a fair price. We like some of the places along the Gulf of Mexico with fresh sea food and great views of the water.
