When we went to the Artistry in Wood show in Dayton a couple weeks ago my wife, who has a "thing" for snowman decorations at Christmas, (we have 10 on the tree and at least 10 more scattered around the house) saw a couple of snowman ornaments carved by a gentlemen from the local carving club. She purchased two with the intention of me carving something similar for gifts for the girls in her Bunco club.

Finally knocked out the last one of the 7 for her girlfriends today. They are carved from an 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 6" basswood block. First couple were fun but removing all that wood with a roughing knife is tough on the fingers and the lack of detail in the piece turned them into more of a chore. The paint work is simple a well. I added the holly to the hats to spice um up a bit. The holly berries are done with 3D paint.

Maybe now I can move on to something with a bit more of a challenge.

Main thing is the wife is extremely happy with them. Thanks for looking.

When I made the snowmen for the wife's club gifts I was lacking one. One for my wife. As she has an affinity for snowmen ornaments, (we have a 5' life sized lit up snowman in our outdoor Christmas display) , I made this one specially for her. Thanks for looking.

So the wife's snowman looked lonely on the end table so I carved him a friend. It's a Christmas tree spirit. Notice he is slightly cross eyed, that's how I was finishing the paint job at 2:00 a.m.
