One of my former coffee buddies was not doing well - in and out of hospital and nursing home - so I made a cane - from Corkscrew Willow and dropped it off at his house April 2015. . . just one of the many canes I've given away. Unfortunately, his health faded and he passed earlier this month.

This morning his widow called asking if it would be okay for her to drop off his cane - hoping i would not be offended. I assured her that would be fine - no problem.

NOW the issue is simply what do I do with it?

Pass it on with the above story? Some people might not want a cane used by a now deceased person.

I may just donate it to Salvation Army.

But it's a beaut - wish I could find more Corkscrew Willow limbs.

Good question on what to do with the cane. I don't have any answers there.

You would be suprised at the number of canes out there that have once been used by a deceased person. Donate it to Hospice?

I know it doesn't bother me. I've bought a lot of stuff from estate sales over the years. A cane would be no big deal.

An antique one would be even better.

FYI I have attempted in the past to donate canes to our local VA - they are IMPOSSIBLE people to deal with. I gave up. I've donated many things including boxes-o-blocks and canes to the Salvation Army w/o a hassle. Walk in, place it on the counter and walk out.

I do not accept their offer for a tax recept.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend Norson.

I think there are lots of Veterans organizations around that would appreciate the donation of a cane. Perhaps Google search veterans organizations and add your town, see what U come up with. Or try the local American Legion or VFW they could point U to a gruop happy to take the walking stick.
