Friday while out doing some local errands I stopped at a tree service business - they cut down trees destroyed by storms, etc., and store the split logs to sell as firewood. The entire crew was gone so I dealt with the owner's wife - who had no clue as to the tree specie, etc, and only charged me $10 for these three pieces. I was interested in making more coasters - for friends/family - but decided early Sat - that's not for me.

Without going into all the why's cutting/slicing a 4" dia log is a HUGE change from cutting stuff from the lumber yards.

Here's the logs and my FINAL coasters.

If I'd have owned the tree service business I'd have given you the pieces of wood free. Anyhow, nice coasters.

Nope...no bad smell (am thankful) - the dust from it (miter saw) is VERY fine and floats and lands everywhere and anywhere. Of course, some of that is because of the 60 tooth blade in my miter saw, but it's different.

Thanks for the comments
