The other day at the arts and crafts show a gentleman was looking at my canes and asked me if I ever seen a cane with marbels inside the shaft of the cane I told him I never seen one he was telling me about a cane his uncle brought back from overseas after WW2 that had a groove cut out of it and you could see the marbels in it and they would jump and make a clicking sound when you walked with it he told me he never seen another one like it.

At the art/craft shows around here you see sticks with marbles in them, some which move others that are just embedded in the sticks. The first things I learned to carve when I was young were balls in cages and wooden chains. Haven't done either for years but have thought about incorporating one or the other into a stick.

I believe that the marbles are inserted after carving by soaking or steaming the box area and pressing the marble inwhile the wood is pliable, I have seen something on youtube showing how its done.

I imagine that tests would need to be done with offcuts of the shank to get the best thickness of corner posts and soaking / steaming times, it would be infuriating to break it on the actual shank.
