Nube Question on an old walking stick a guy claims to be from the 1700s. Thats what he says he was told. He says it belonged to a doctor but from what I've read , a doctor had a stick with two snakes identifying him as a doctor back in the day. This stick has a single snake with a salamander carved on it with a ball top. I really don't think it's that old but I'm new to cane collecting and really don't know how to tell how old this cane is. any help or info would be helpful. Thanks

It would be in remarkable shape if it's really that old and a great example of the folk art style. I'm no expert but it doesn't seem quite right for that time period. The examples I've seen generally had longer ferrules at the bottom. It's possible it was replaced at some point too though.

Unless the person is a known and trusted source or the stick is dirt cheap I would consider a professional appraisal before buying.
